Cluchey Presents Paper at Professional
Meeting
Kathleen McLaughlin Cluchey
’08 co-presented a paper with Steve Stell, associate
professor of religious studies, at the Southwest Regional Meeting of
the American Academy of Religion. The paper,
“A Dying
Christendom and the Postmodern Dilemma: A Theological Examination of
Liberals, Conservatives and the Emerging Church,” and research
efforts were a product of Cluchey’s 2007 Mellon Grant.
Cluchey, a
Spanish and religion graduate, magna cum laude, completed a
senior honors thesis to earn Honors in Spanish. In 2009, she will
begin her master’s degree in divinity at Princeton Theological
Seminary.
Senior Directs Production
Jackie
Purdy ’10 directed and created the set
design for the College presentation of Sir Gawain and the Green
Knight, by Dennis Scott. The lyrical play is based upon the
original epic poem from the Middle Ages. “This romantic tale of
bravery and honor centers on a knight of King Arthur's court, Sir
Gawain,” Purdy said. “Known for his perfection, Gawain is confronted
by a magic that will challenge his flawlessness. In the end, we
discover that no man is perfect, and that coming to that
understanding is part of what makes a person great.”
Gawain was portrayed by Addison O’Donnell
’09. Other cast members were Christina Bay ’11,
Austin Tooley ’09, Justin Duncan ’08, Linsey Betts
’08, Erin Sweeney ’11, and Greg Hernandez ’09.
Stage manager was Katie Marchant ’10, with Averie
Bell ’09 as costume designer; Philip Cartwright ’08,
sound designer; Jackie Purdy, set designer; and Michael
Brahce, artistic director.
Purdy majored in business administration and
communication arts.
